Vintage Nudity

Ahh... the old round-cornered snapshots from the 1970s. A clear indication that this was not a Polaroid, but a commercially-developed photo.

This is not anyone I know, but it reminds me of the good old days. One time at college, I found a nude photo of someone's girlfriend (a Polaroid) in their dorm room, and it gave me an idea: "The next time I go home, I'm going to take some nude photos of my girlfriend." Not to share them with anyone (at least not back then, I would never have considered that. Now? Well that's a different story.)

Not having a Polaroid camera, I simply used my Kodak 110, and took the film to a Fotomat. Of course, I took them to a distant location, and used an assumed name to maintain some privacy, but there was no guarantee (or expectation, really) that anyone developing the film wouldn't keep an extra set for themselves, or that a bored Fotomat employee would browse and/or cherry-pick the photos.

Anyway, when I saw this photo it reminded me of those days.

  1. Back in the '80s and '90s used to take nude pics of myself with a 35 mm camera and have the film developed at the local Kmart in the small town I live in. The ladies who worked at the counter always seemed quite happy to see me stop in to drop off film for developing or pick up photos. They never said anything about the contents but always wondered if they kept any copies for themselves.
